Kota Kinabalu, Tuesday, 6 June 2017: “There is no two ways about the way forward for the Federation of Malaysia, it is either to RESOLVE OR DISSOLVE the Federation. It is high time for the Malayan and federal governments as well as Umno and the Malay ultras to acknowledge and accept that Sabah and Sarawak formed Malaysia on 16 September 1963 as equal partners with certain special safeguards, rights and conditions” said Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, President of Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku, who is also the Assemblyman for Bingkor, Keningau.

Dr. Jeffrey was adding to the discussions at the MAJAPS-SLA Seminar 2017 over the last weekend at a leading hotel in Kota Kinabalu where the Chief Minister and the VVIPs in attendance had an earful listening to the history of the formation of Malaysia and the legality, basis and process of the formation of Malaysia, MA63, 20-Points, IGC Report as well as other constitutional documents.

For additional measure, also highlighted were the political manipulation by the presence of Umno in Sabah and lop-sided development where Sabah and Sarawak lagged decades behind Malaya.

The Federation of Malaya and the federal government can no longer continue to keep and treat Sabah and Sarawak as the 12th and 13th States equal to the other 11 Malayan States. Sarawak alone is almost equal in size to Malaya while Sabah is equivalent to 6 Malayan States and 90 times the size of tiny Perlis.

The matter is compounded by the plunder of the wealth and oil and gas resources from the Borneo States to develop Malaya. As a result of the lop-sided allocations, development in Malaya with highways criss-crossing, some multi-levels, and 8-lanes and 10-lanes, is decades ahead of Sabah and Sarawak, the poorest and second poorest States in the nation.

On the other hand, there is a lack of basic amenities in Sabah and Sarawak. The majority of the rural villagers still do not have clean treated water and have to rely on gravity-fed river water or rainwater. Many still do not have electricity and children have no choice but to study by candle-light at night.

While roads in rural Malaya especially Felda areas are wide and properly sealed, most of the village roads in Sabah are still gravel. The KK-Sipitang and KK-Sandakan is nothing in comparison to the smooth and wide highways in Malaya. This adds to higher maintenance costs and frequent repairs for vehicles in Sabah due to high wear and tear.

As for security, due to the demonic and traitorous acts of giving MyKads and ICs to foreigners who are then enrolled as voters, Sabah is now a security nightmare. These foreigners, now Malaysians, by virtue of their ICs have become a monster gobbling up the local population and have formed the fixed deposit for Umno Malaya and helping to keep them in power. They, some of them trained, equipped and funded by the Malaysian government covertly, are said to be clandestinely involved in the cross-border kidnappings which even the 13-battlion strong ESSCOM force have been unable to prevent.

In addition, many of the special safeguards and rights of Sabah, many provided in the Federal Constitution are ignored and violated by the federal government of Malaya masquerading as the federal government of the Federation of Malaysia.

From 1974, Sabah has been robbed of the 40% net revenue derived from Sabah which were agreed and enshrined in the Federal Constitution. Sabah were also short-changed and did not get the full import and excise duties on petroleum products and were denied the export duties on timber and crude oil produced from Sabah.

They amount to tens of billion ringgits annually, money which are badly needed to develop Sabah and provide from the welfare and benefit of Sabahans who comprise 40% of all poor in Malaysia.

Ironically, it was the twin hopes of security and development that persuaded Sabah’s founding fathers to agree to form Malaysia. Neither has been fulfilled and with the wealth and rich resources especially 95% oil revenues siphoned to Petronas and the federal government and the non-compliance of the 40% net revenue entitlements, there is little hope for Sabahans to look forward to or remain in Malaysia.

Singapore, a relatively small island, without any natural resources, left Malaysia in 1965, while tiny Brunei opted out at the last moment, have both done well. They have become the 3rd and 5th richest nations by per capita GDP numbers, both developing, progressing and benefiting without the presence of Umno.

There is no point for Sabah and Sarawak to be in Malaysia if their rights and autonomy continued to be ignored and violated by the Malayan controlled Federal government.

If the federal and Malayan governments do not take steps to RESOLVE OR DISSOLVE, the way forward for Malaysia to continue will see no light for Sabah and Sarawak. If unresolved, it may be better for Sabah and Sarawak to go separate ways and chart their own future rather than continue to be the subservient and marginalized 12th and 13th States of Malaya.
